This is the blog of John Siebelink, blogger and aspiring science fiction writer. John is a contributing blogger for the science fiction magazine Amazing Stories, and has written entries for that magazine since early 2014.
John Siebelink (pronounced SEE-BUH-LINK) got into blogging after being introduced to the blog of science fiction author John Scalzi, whose personal blog Whatever had great impact over Siebelink’s writing. Scalzi writes about whatever he feels like writing about at any given time. John Siebelink intends to go one step more and write about…anything.
Ok, enough talking in the third-person. I had to do enough of that at boot camp. (Yes, I served in the Marine Corps. Semper fi, everyone!) Basically, I want to step outside of my comfort zone and try writing about things I would not normally write about. For instance, politics and religion. Those are the two most infamous conversation topics, and ones I hardly feel comfortable thinking about, let alone writing about. With this blog, however, I plan on writing entries on both of these subjects. As a science fiction fan I could spend days writing about my favorite movies or books (which I do all the time for Amazing Stories) or on the latest gossip or news or anything else geeky I might be urged to pencil about.
My main goal, however, is to work on becoming a better writer. I learned, from Scalzi no less, that a great way to do this to to go outside the boundaries of what I would normally write (or read) about and try new things.
This blog is my attempt to do just that.
